The Maker

I was commissioned by Tamara Maynes to create portrait collages of William Morris & Walter Groupius for her book The Maker. See the finished work and BTS below.

William Morris was an English textile designer, poet and artist and was widely famous for his iconic wallpaper designs, which were central to the British Arts and Crafts Movement. I love his work and it was such a fun opportunity to create William a beard out of his own wallpaper patterns.

Walter Gropius was a German architect and founder of the influential Bauhaus School of Art and Design. He championed functionalism and minimalist design under the principle that "form follows function." Designs were stripped down to their essential, geometric forms to achieve functional aesthetics - the style emphasised with bold primary colours of red, blue, yellow.
