"To be an artist is to dance between the light and the darkness"
- James McCrae
I made Inhibitions as a reflection on the ways we become tied up within ourselves, and how quiet restraints can shape the paths we take, or the ones we hesitate to follow.
A lot of my work begins with emotional states translated through forms found in nature. In this piece, I was interested in the idea that what holds us can be met with care. That loosening can begin in the simple act of seeing clearly, and in allowing that awareness to soften what once felt fixed. For me, the work speaks to that delicate process of becoming freer, not by denying what has shaped us, but by seeing it clearly enough to begin undoing it.
