The Rose Pink Rose

I selected this rose in bud form for a commercial job — tight, uniform, exactly what the brief needed. When the work was finished, the rose kept opening. By the time it reached this stage, it had become something else entirely.  I photographed it again, at true-to-life scale. I used engineering software to measure the curve of each petal, holding one fleeting moment of its opening with as much precision as I could. A small spider appeared mid-shoot and stayed in the final image — a tiny stowaway, and proof that the scene had acquired a life of its own.
