"Artists give people something they didn't know they were missing"
- Daniel Pink
I made Almost Perfect as a reflection on beauty, imperfection, and the peace that appears when we stop asking everything to be flawless.
This piece started as a precision still life of rose and stones. After printing, I covered the entire background with hand-stamped smiley faces. From a distance, the backdrop looks richly textured. Up close, the individual faces reveal themselves, each one slightly different and carrying the evidence of the human hand.
A lot of my work begins with emotional states translated through objects, gesture, and symbolic form. In this piece, I was interested in the junction between polish and unpredictability - the point where control loosens enough for something more interesting to appear. What began as a composed still life became a way to speak about authenticity, softness, and the kind of beauty that does not rely on perfection to hold power.
