"When we pour our heart into works we love, it carries the experience we had in making it, with it. Even after it has left our hands"
- Joel Uili
I made Let Go as a celebration of surrender and the freedom that can be accessed when we release our grip and trust the freefall.
I constructed the words LET GO from multiple photographic studies of gathered fallen frangipani flowers. I was drawn to the irony in the concept of falling - where you can look at a flower that has left the branch and think only of their downfall. In contrast, as humans, regret is more often felt by hanging on. And although letting go can sound simple, it often requires something deeply courageous.
A lot of my work begins with emotional states translated through forms found in nature. In this piece, I was interested in the possibility that freedom can appear when we stop holding on, and that joy and freedom can appear when we stop resisting, trust the fall, and allow ourselves to be carried into potential.
